Out of state residents needing to conduct relevant business in Florida use FDLE-authorized vendors to submit fingerprints to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
How are digital fingerprints kept confidential?
Fingerprints scans that are printed onto fingerprint cards are not saved on our system.
Fingerprint scans that are immediately electronically transmitted to authorized agencies like the FDLE are first converted into a mathematical representation, aka a template. These templates are then encrypted using strong encryption algorithms before being securely transmitted directly to the proper authorized recipiennt.
What should I do before getting my fingerprints taken?
When requesting to submit to the FDLE, you must provide the Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) number at time of service to ensure your information is transmitted to the correct agency.
Before getting your fingerprints taken:
- Bring a valid, unexpired photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport) and any required documents or preferred fingerprint card (FD-258 cards provided).
- Ensure your hands are moisturized, but avoid greasy lotions.
- Do not wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before the appointment.
- Inform the technician of any cuts, dry skin, or other hand conditions.
